My Microblading Experience

From natural and thick to a thin pencil line, eyebrows evolve throughout time and trend on their own. Depending on your age, you have probably had at least a few different eyebrow shapes yourself. In my teens and early twenties, the thin pencil line brows were on trend. Come on late 90’s early 2000’s, who’s with me? We would pluck and wax until there was a barely-there line. I want to say, “what were we thinking?!” But, I’m sure it will come around again. Anyway, all this to say brow shape makes a big difference in your overall look!

About two years ago I realized my brows needed help. It had been way too long of neglecting them. (Along with other self-cares, but today we are focusing on the brows.) I also noticed that as I got older my brows were thinning in spots. It was probably from years of plucking them. So, I started a quest to fill in my brows to give them a shape and color I loved. I found a few products that worked okay for me and I played with the shape by plucking. Yet, I would often find myself getting into my car, looking in my rear-view mirror and saying, “whoa!” (Not in a good way.) They were either too dark , not even or some days I’d forget to fill them in entirely. Needless to say, I felt a bit defeated in this quest to get my brows to what I had envisioned.

I would often comment on friends eyebrows. The consensus seemed to be that most of the eyebrows I had been complimenting , were the eyebrows that had been microbladed. Fast forward about a year and a half later. I finally decided to bite the bullet. It had been a good year and I had still been wanting to get mine done. I was hoping for evenly shaped, filled in brows that looked natural. I was also wanting the ease of one less step in my make-up routine each morning.

(Side Note: This was a big decision for me. To spend our finances on something “like this,” just for me, wasn’t an easy decision. I decided to sell some things on FB Marketplace and over time I saved up the money. I also talked with my husband about the cost. I really wanted his approval and I got it without hesitation.)

Before

So, what is microblading anyway?

Microblading: Noun. A semipermanent technique for enhancing the appearance of the eyebrows, in which pigment is scratched into the skin in fine, short strokes resembling hair, using a hand tool with a blade formed of tiny needles. -The Oxford Dictionaries

What to Expect

Each aesthetician and salon will be a bit different. I can tell you what I experienced at Infinique Skin and Spa. My first visit was a consultation with my aesthetician, Tonya Conrad. She looked at my eyebrows and informed me of everything I needed to know about the procedure. I gave her a down payment and we set up our second appointment. The second appointment took about an hour to an hour and a half. My brows were numbed and dyed. Then she started the process of measuring, drawing, microblading. The microblading itself was uncomfortable, my eyes were watering. It was more painful than what I was expecting. I guess for some people it is more painful. I must have been one of them. I should have taken Tylenol prior to the appointment. This process repeated itself until she was satisfied with the shape. I left with aftercare tips, instructions and healing gel. I was also thankful she gave me a card of The Emotions of Microblading, because I went through ALL the emotions. I loved them and hated them and was confused as to where they went. My third appointment and second procedure was made five weeks after my initial procedure. The second procedure was basically the same as the first. It is the appointment to perfect the brows. You should know the whole microblading experience is a process. I’m finally, about seven weeks from the first procedure, wiping my brow (pun intended) with the relief that it was all worth it. I don’t say this to scare you, I hope this helps you understand that it is not an overnight transformation but you will eventually get the brows that you signed up for.

Things to Consider:

  • Consider getting the first procedure done while you have some time off of work. Possibly a long weekend.
  • Be prepared to cover them with a hat or big sunglasses during the healing process to protect from the sun.
  • No submerging your brows in water while healing.
  • After about 18 months you will more than likely need a touch up. You will continue to touch up as long as you still like the shape. You could let it run it’s course of 4-5 years until they will completely fade. Microblading is a semi-permanent procedure.

Cost:

At Infinique Salon and Spa it costs $425, that seems to be pretty average. If you decide at the first consultation apt. that you’d like to get the procedure done, you will give a down payment of $125. And then $300 is due at the first procedure apt. Touch-ups, if you get them done within two years is $150. The price goes up with the amount of time in between.

Pictures:

Up close and personal here! The pictures below show a progression of my eyebrows. I tried showing the number of days it had been since the procedure. You’ll notice a picture of peeling brows, (the picture doesn’t capture the amount of peeling there truly was.) You’ll also see a picture with my bucket hat, it worked great to block the sun during the healing process.

Before and After

Final Thoughts:

Overall I’m satisfied with my final brows. I’m so glad I waited to post about it, because the process had me doubting. I do not regret spending the money on this procedure. I often look in my rear view mirror and think, “yup, that’s what I wanted:)” I highly recommend Infinique Spa and Salon. (I’m not affiliated with them or being paid to post.) If you have any other questions about mircoblading, Infiniqueskin.com is loaded with information. And as always I’m here to help. Thick eyebrows, skinny eyebrows, microbladed, penciled in or no eyebrows at all, it doesn’t really matter. It surely helped me feel better about my look. But, they certainly don’t define me. Your heart is what make you beautiful and you are perfect just the way you are.

  1. Thanks for sharing your experience Ellen! I’ve also had many moments looking in the mirror in my car and realizing my (penciled) in eyebrows are crooked, have rubbed off, or are too sparse at the ends when I do nothing. At some point I may want to do micro blading as well, so I appreciate your thoughts and tips about it. A couple others I know seem to be pretty happy with it as well.
